Comparison of Material Properties and Development Trends of Cold Slippers

For a long time, traditional materials such as ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), rubber, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) have dominated the market for slippers. With the continuous popularization of environmental protection concepts, various new environmentally friendly materials are gradually emerging. Thoroughly analyzing the characteristics of these materials can help consumers make more scientific and reasonable decisions when choosing slippers.

1、 EVA material

EVA, Ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer is a widely used material in the manufacturing of slippers. Its chemical structure endows it with excellent flexibility and lightweight characteristics, allowing users to feel a clear sense of comfort when wearing it, as if walking on a soft support surface. In terms of cushioning performance, EVA performs excellently, effectively absorbing and dispersing the impact force on the feet during walking, thereby providing good protection for the ankle and knee joints. In addition, EVA has good processing performance and can be easily molded into various complex shapes through injection molding, compression molding, and other processes. Different colorants can be added to achieve rich and diverse color presentations, fully meeting consumers' pursuit of fashion and personalization.

However, EVA material has certain limitations. From the perspective of wear resistance, due to its relatively soft molecular structure, frequent friction between the sole and the ground during long-term use can lead to wear and tear, which can to some extent shorten the service life of slippers. In terms of anti slip performance, EVA has poor friction performance in humid environments. When in contact with water stained ground, the anti slip coefficient of the sole decreases, and the risk of slipping for the user increases accordingly.

2、 Rubber material

Rubber material is known for its excellent anti slip performance in the field of slippers. The molecular structure of rubber contains a large number of cross-linking bonds, which give it good elasticity and high friction coefficient. Whether walking in damp environments such as bathrooms or by swimming pools, or on outdoor surfaces where water may accumulate, rubber slippers can provide stable and reliable grip, effectively ensuring the safety of users' walking. In addition, the wear resistance of rubber is also very outstanding. After long-term use and repeated friction, the wear of the sole is relatively small, which makes rubber slippers have a longer service life.

But the rubber material is not perfect. Its density is relatively high, resulting in the weight of the made slippers being heavy, and wearing them for a long time can easily cause fatigue in the feet. Meanwhile, rubber itself has a certain odor, which is caused by the raw materials and additives used in its production process. Newly produced rubber slippers usually require a period of ventilation and odor elimination treatment to reduce the impact of odors on users. In addition, compared to EVA, the flexibility of rubber is slightly inferior, which may affect the comfort of wearing to some extent.

3、 PVC material

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a relatively low-cost synthetic material widely used in the manufacturing of slippers, which makes PVC slippers have a high cost-effectiveness in the market. By adding different plasticizers, stabilizers, and pigments, PVC can present a rich and diverse range of colors and styles, meeting the aesthetic needs of different consumers. In terms of performance, PVC has good water resistance and corrosion resistance, and can maintain structural stability in harsh environments such as humidity, acidity, and alkalinity, making it less prone to damage.

However, PVC slippers also have some drawbacks. Its molecular structure is tight and its breathability is poor. During long-term wearing, the sweat produced by the feet cannot be dissipated in a timely manner, which can easily lead to stuffiness and sweating of the feet, affecting the comfort of wearing. In addition, stabilizers containing heavy metals such as lead and cadmium, as well as phthalate plasticizers, may be used in the production process of PVC. These chemicals may be released under certain conditions, posing potential risks to the environment and human health.

4、 New environmentally friendly materials

With the increasing global awareness of environmental protection, new environmentally friendly materials such as biodegradable materials are gradually being applied in the production and manufacturing of slippers. Biodegradable materials mainly come from natural polymers or renewable resources such as starch, cellulose, polylactic acid (PLA), etc. These materials can decompose under the action of microorganisms in the natural environment and ultimately transform into harmless substances such as water and carbon dioxide, without causing long-term pollution to the environment.

Taking starch based biodegradable materials as an example, they have good biodegradability while retaining certain flexibility and comfort. On the premise of meeting the basic functional requirements of slippers, it greatly reduces the burden on the environment. However, the current new environmentally friendly materials still face some technical and cost challenges in practical applications. The performance stability of some biodegradable materials needs to be improved, such as their mechanical properties and water resistance, which still have certain gaps compared to traditional materials. In addition, due to immature production technology and limited supply of raw materials, the production cost of new environmentally friendly materials is relatively high, which to some extent limits their large-scale industrial application.

in summary, EVA、 Traditional materials such as rubber and PVC have their own advantages and disadvantages in the field of slippers. Although new environmentally friendly materials have shown broad development prospects, further breakthroughs and optimizations are still needed in terms of technology and cost. Consumers should consider various factors such as their actual needs, wearing scenarios, and environmental awareness when choosing slippers, and make the most suitable choice. With the continuous advancement and innovation of technology, we believe that in the future, more high-performance and environmentally friendly new materials will be applied in the production and manufacturing of slippers, bringing consumers a more comfortable, healthy, and environmentally friendly wearing experience.
